Our client are looking for a new Staff Analytics Engineer in the Data Science & Analytics department, you’ll help them achieve its mission of making second hand first choice worldwide. By driving the design, building, and maintenance of their data models and pipelines, your work is crucial in improving the product and helping the company grow. As the most senior Analytics Engineer of the company, you’ll be leading complex and highly strategic projects that will substantially impact the course of the company during this exciting phase of rapid growth. You’ll mentor other team members and take Analytics Engineering to the next level. 

You’ll also be a part of the Data Science & Analytics Guild – a team of smart and curious data geeks who’ll offer you all the support you need to excel in this position.

The role…

  • Drive complex and strategic company-wide projects, spanning multiple quarters
  • Be the driver of improvements to our data platform usage through setting standards; from data model design principles to usage policies
  • Set our analytics engineering standard and guide other team members
  • Be the voice of our department around our data platform needs
  • Participate in the analytics engineering community outside of the company
  • Proactively identify and drive opportunities to make Data Science and Analytics within the company even more impactful
  • Generally contribute to the effectiveness and wellbeing of the entire department

You will have…

  • 8+ years or equivalent working experience in the data space (advantage for data engineer, ETL/ELT dev, analytics engineer) 
  • Deep knowledge of data modelling, data access and data storage techniques
  • Extensive working experience with large scale (billions of rows) data warehouses
  • Capable of setting a vision on what our data platform should do to best empower our Analytics Engineers, and drafting standards, policies and processes to reach it
  • Fluent in SQL, have working experience with git, and master at least one of the mainstream programming languages, e.g. Python, Java, Scala
  • A great communicator who can present complex topics clearly and persuasively to different audiences
  • Can translate functional requirements into tech requirements and vice versa and you can sketch a rough outline of a technical architecture that meets our needs (but not necessarily in-depth)
  • Extensive experience with cloud environments (GCP would be a bonus)
  • Experience with the Modern Data Stack incl. dbt/DataForm/similar (streaming would be a bonus)
  • Experience with data access control and privileges (GDPR experience is a bonus)
